OEM productionMANUFACTURING PROCESS

A manufacturing site filled with the essence of artisanship. Introducing a manufacturing process that combines the charm of the materials and skilled artisanship.

Pattern creation

We will create a paper pattern according to your specifications.
We create patterns either by hand or using CAD.
We can fulfill requests such as adjusting sizes easily using CAD.

CAD operating
(mainly for production overseas)

For production overseas, Marutomi sends pattern data developed using CAD online.
It can then be shared immediately with the CAD operaters at each factory without any time lag, making plans toward specifications and production as smooth as possible.

Inspection

Craftsmen who are familiar with the materials focus their eyes and hands to carefully inspect the materials used to identify any defects.

Cutting

A cut of leather is made for each part based on the shape.
Identifying the most suitable part of material for each part of the product is essential, and requires deep knowledge of and experience with the material.

Leather skiving

For leather products we conduct leather skiving. This involves skiving, or shaving, the leather to adjust the thickness of the leather piece to make it easier to process.
Since the required thickness differs depending on each piece, the adjustment needs precise craftsmanship. It is a delicate work that greatly affects the quality of the product. The size of the adjustment is from 0.2mm.

Edge polishing and coating

The edge is the cross section of leather.
If left untrimmed, the roughness will be noticeable and it will be the cause of defects, so it must be polished carefully. Then, it needs to be protected by fastening the edges with edge coating.
It is said that the quality of a product can be determined by looking at the processing at the edges, and it is a vital phase where the skill of the craftsman shines through.

Adhering, sewing

After re-inspecting the material that has been cut, skived, and edged, it is then adhered and sewn.
We carefully sew each and every detail by hand, taking care of the processing of the corners, the machine seam size and spacing, etc., to create the final three-dimensional product.

Finishing, inspection, packing

After completing any secondary processes such as polishing, the product will be finally inspected and packed before shipping. Minor repairs, etc. are performed in this process, and at the same time, inspection work is also performed. In the inspection process, we strive to maintain a high level of quality stability based on product specifications and check-list guidelines.
